The 101'ers

Below I have attempted to list all known releases. The 101'ers have also featured on compilation releases (e.g. Chiswick) but to list all these would take forever and besides, any tracks on these compilations will also be on the albums below. The only official

I also make reference to Andalucia Records, which was a label set up by Joe Strummer and Richard Dudanski for the 1981 Elgin Avenue Breakdown release.

The albums are in no particular order as it's hard to know the exact release dates
The Singles are at the very bottom of this page.

Beat Music Dynamite-CD Version

Almost the same as the LP version, again this was released in 2003. Tracks 13=19 claim to be from The Blue Note Club. There was a Blue Note Club in London, however The 101'ers were never listed as playing there and also the group had split up by December 1976. The 'Blue Note Club' tracks are actually from the Derby Cleopatra's gig on 20th December 1975, although they sound a lot clearer than the full Derby Cleopatra's show which is circulating, leading me to believe these 7 tracks are possibly from the master tape.

Five Star Rock 'N' Roll (CD/LP)

Apparently John 'Boogie' Tiberi, one time 101'ers roadie and manager, released Five Star Rock 'N' Roll in France in 1993 on the label 'Made in Heaven.' Only 1000 or so copies were pressed, however Boogie released this without the knowlege or permission of The 101'ers so it was withdrawn.

Elgin Avenue Breakdown (LP/CD)

Originally released in 1981 on Andalucia, around 2,000 copies were made. Virgin distributed this album. The man on the sleeve was nicknamed Metal Man, so called because he covered himself with Metal. For having his picture taken he wanted a piece of chicken in return.

Elgin Avenue Breakdown Revisited (LP/CD)

The first 101'ers album to be given widescale release, and apart from the original Elgin Avenue Breakdown the only official album. You can still buy this at www.amazon.co.uk and www.play.com. Elgin Avenue Breakdown Revisited features unreleased live tracks, and the booklet includes memorabilia, track notes by drummer Richard Dudanski, and pictures of the group which I've not seen before. Released in 2005 on the EMI label in the UK, and Astralwerks in the USA. More info here

Live at The Roundhouse 18th April 1976 (CD)

This was never officially released, also not many people seem to be aware of this CD. I've come across this under two different names-'Basement Rehearsals' and 'Sessions From A Squat Basement'. However the CD definitely contains live tracks from The Roundhouse. Taped by soundman Mickey Foote onto cassette, The 101'ers were supporting Van Der Graff Generator and Spiders From Mars and so had to do a short set. They probably played a couple more numbers as you can just make out the start of 'Motor Boys Motor' after 'Don't Let Go.' Tracks 1 and 5 (Monkey Business) are exactly the same.
All tracks are taken from the 1981 Elgin Avenue Breakdown release

Below I have included some excellent artwork, done by Julie Jazz. If you would like this artwork in a file please contact me

Smokey Joe's Cafe (CD)

CD1-I don't have much info on this release. With regards to track 11, I've no idea what this song is-I've never heard it before and the recording isn't very clear.
CD2-This is the Derby Cleopatra's gig in full, whereas the 2 earlier sources of this show have tracks missing, so again I believe the 2 sources have been merged to create the full recording. The sound quality is above average, unless you know the lyrics they are difficult to make out. Both lead and rythmn guitars are clear, the drums are a bit distant but not too bad, the bass is just about inaudible

Elgin Avenue Breakdown Revisited Promo/Advance (CD)

This CD will have been given away to the music press etc for them to review. The CD has the text "Street Date: June 14, 2005" on it, while the back cover reads:

Before The Clash, Joe Strummer was he lead vocalist/guitarist in a gritty, R&B-styled London pub band called the 101ers. The 101ers mark a key point in the development both of Joe Strummer's own musical sensibilites and also of the burgeoningpunk scene

"It's an essential artifcat for Clashologists, spreading hints of things to come all over the place. As an energetic slice of simple, raucous rock 'n' roll, it's worth every penny as well." -Trouser Press

Track 15 is listed as a live version of Hideaway, however although it is listed on the artwork it is not on the CD.
As far as I can make out, it is exactly the same as the main release of Elgin Avenue Breakdown Revisited.

Singles

Keys To Your Heart/Five Star Rock 'N' Roll (Vinyl)

Released on the legendary Chiswick Label in 1976. This is quite a famous single, and you can find it on ebay quite frequently. How many were produced I don't know so beware of fakes. The code for this single is Chiswick S3

Keys To Your Heart/Five Star Rock 'N' Roll (Vinyl)

This is where it gets slightly confusing, I'm led to believe towards the end of 1976 the original single was reissued, exactly the same recording but with a different sleeve. This release has the code Chiswick NS3.

Sweet Revenge/Rabies From The Dogs Of Love (Vinyl)

Released in 1980 on the Big Beat Label. In addition I'm not certain that the image below is from the single sleeve. The code is NS 63B. I have also seen the same single listed with a release date of 1976, but this is possibly a fake. As with the Keys To Your Heart singles, be careful to avoid fakes.

Keys To Your Heart/Five Star Rock 'N' Roll/Sweet Revenge/Rabies (Vinyl)

Released in Japan in 1985. No other details at present.

Letsagetabitarockin'/Motor Boys Motor (Vinyl)

A 2005 release to tie in with the Elgin Avenue Breakdown Revisited Album. This is still widely available.

Keys To Your Heart/Five Star Rock 'N' Roll (Vinyl)

Released in France. Anyone know any more details?
