The 101'ers

The Telegraph stands on Brixton Hill. The 101'ers played their first ever gig here, Alvaro came up with the offer of the gig and joined the band. Therefore the lineup was: Simon Cassell, Richard Dudanski on drums, his brother Pat Nother on bass, Alvaro Pena Rojas on Sax and Joe Strummer on rythmn Guitar.

The gig date is listed as Friday 6th September 1974, however it is more than likely the gig was actually played the following day (Saturday 7th September 1974). The 101'ers (or El Huaso and The 101 All Stars as they were then known) were supporting local reggae band Matumbi.

The 101'ers turned up with little, and were hoping to borrow Matumbi's equipment. Matumbi themselves were a couple of hours late due to their van breaking down, however they agreed to lend their equipment to The 101'ers. That evening The 101'ers played just 6 songs including Bony Moronie and Gloria.
The Telegraph continues to host live music.
