The 101'ers

The Windsor Castle on the Harrow Road is quite a famous venue in the history of The 101'ers. When the band played here for the 1st time on the 1st July 1975, I believe it was the first part of progressing to 'stage 2' (stage 1 being The Elgin, Charlie Pigdog Club) and it was certainly a step up for the band.

The pub itself is a T shape, with the entrance at the bottom of the T and the stage in the middle. It is quite a large open plan pub, and back in the day it was a typical pub, with old carpets and curtains and built in seating round the edges. In the mid 1990's the pub was bought by a Scotsman, who introduced lunchtime strippers.

Members of The 101'ers saw Dr Feelgood play here in the summer of 1974, a gig which certainly inspired Joe, and The 101'ers would go on to play The Windsor Castle 3 times. The early Clash song 'Protex Blue' was apparently about the contraceptive machine in the toilets of The Windsor Castle.
As far as I'm aware, The Windsor Castle still hosts live music today.
